St. Charles High School

WALDORF, Md. — Students at St. Charles High School were dismissed early Thursday, April 30, 2026, after a second firearm was recovered on campus, prompting an ongoing police investigation.

According to a letter sent to parents by Principal Tammika Little, school administrators located another gun in a student’s locker during a follow-up investigation related to a firearm recovered the previous day.

All students and staff were reported safe, and the school was placed in a hold status as a precaution while officials secured the building.

As a safety measure, school officials initiated an early dismissal beginning around 10:15 a.m. to allow administrators and law enforcement to conduct a full facility safety check.

Students were instructed to leave bookbags in their lockers during dismissal. Those needing personal belongings were advised to notify school staff.

Bus riders were dismissed first, followed by car riders and students who walk to and from school. School officials warned parents to expect heavier than normal traffic for pickups and required photo identification for student release.

Students who travel to and from St. Charles via shuttle buses for programs at North Point High School, Robert D. Stethem Educational Center, or the College of Southern Maryland’s Early College Program were expected to complete their day on their normal schedule.

All afterschool and evening activities at St. Charles High School were canceled for the day.

Police remain involved in the investigation, and additional information is expected to be released later.
