David Isiah Butler of Mechanicsville was charged with a plethora of traffic and criminal offenses stemming from his effort to elude police in a high speed chase on Feb. 11
Butler was charged with the following traffic violations: FAILURE TO DRIVE RIGHT OF CENTER, FAILURE TO STOP AT STOP SIGN (x2), DRIVING VEH. ON HWY. AT SPEED EXCEEDING LIMIT Speed Limit: 30 Recorded Speed: 105 Fine: $530, RECKLESS DRIVING Fine: $510, ATTEMPT BY DRIVER TO ELUDE UNIFORMED POLICE BY FAILING TO STOP.
Butler was also charged with the following Criminal Charges: ASSAULT-FIRST DEGREE, ASSAULT-SEC DEGREE, CDS:POSS PARAPHERNALIA, CDS: POSSESSION-MARIHUANA
Near midnight on Wednesday, Feb. 11 a routine traffic stop turned into a high speed chase. A St. Mary’s County Sheriff deputy attempted to pull over the driver of a 98 Ford van in the area of Route 247 and Independence Road in Loveville. The driver took off, almost hitting the officer’s cruiser. The chase proceeded north on Route 5 for about 8 miles sometimes at speeds over 100 miles per hour. Authorities shut down the area of Route 5 and 235 and put out stop stiicks, The driver of the van pulled into the Wawa parking lot and was arrested.
It is not known at this time what charges were filed. It is believed the driver had a a controlled dangerous substance and that he was throwing out the window of the van during the chase. TBN will release details as they are released by authorities.
