Charles County residents have flocked to the fairgrounds for 88 years for the Charles County Fair. Thursday will mark the start to the 89th Charles County Fair when Queen Nicotina will be crowned once more. Simply put, it is low cost fun for the whole family.
Carnival rides, livestock displays, displays from the county schools, deep fried foods, funnel cakes and entertainment is what a county fair is all about. This year, along with the normal, a performance by Jump With Jill will take center stage on Friday afternoon.
Queen Nicotina LXXVI will be crowned on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Thursday night will also consist of pig race events and chain saw carving with Dennis Beach. Friday marks children’s day at the fair, a day where schools are closed and children are the focus. Lawnmower races will also take place on Friday night at 7 p.m. and the Port Tobacco Pickers will perform at 7 p.m.
Saturday consists of the baby show, livestock show, pie-eating contest (3pm), livestock auction and the horse pull (7pm). 4-H awards will be presented at 4pm on Sunday.
Weather-wise, things look perfect for the county fair. Minus a slim chance of storms on Friday night, highs are expected to be in the low 80’s on Friday and in the 70’s all weekend.
