La Plata, Md. โ€” Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, regardless of their background or immigration status. In a recently issued statement, CCPS emphasized that the school system does not inquire about the immigration status of students or their families and outlined the measures in place to protect student records and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

Key Highlights from CCPS Policies:

  • FERPA Compliance: CCPS cannot release student records without parental consent unless a court order or subpoena is provided.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Parents/guardians are urged to update emergency contact information and develop care and custody plans for their children in case of unforeseen circumstances such as arrest, detention, or hospitalization.
  • Enrollment Policies: Citizenship or immigration status is not required for student enrollment, and CCPS does not collect Social Security information.

CCPS reiterated its focus on safety, stating, โ€œAll children have a right to a free public education, regardless of the immigration status of the student or their parent/guardian.โ€ Additionally, resources for families navigating immigration challenges are available on the CCPS website.

  1. Do we get to opt out of this illegal activity on our hard earned taxes? I do not want to be involved in illegal activities.

  2. โ€œAll children have a right to a free public education”
Free? Wow, Democrats sure have different vocabulary than the English that was taught in public schools that my parents and grandparents funded with their taxes. Does ‘Free’ mean the school board and teachers draw no pay?

Going to be fun to watch members of the Charles County School Board and any other official who gets in the way of ICE, get perp walked out of their building.

  4. Then off to jail for you. Under no circumstances should the tax payers in Maryland pay for the education on illegal Alainโ€™s.
