
LA PLATA, Md — On May 24, the Charles County Department of Emergency Services welcomed back from the hospital the two officers who were shot last week while responding to a call.
Both officers rode together as a crowd celebrated their return at the District Three station. Several vehicles from the department escorted them.ย Diane Richardson, the Charles County Sheriffโs media relations officer said, โIt was important to give the staff and employees an opportunity to show their support, and they had the officers in their thoughts.โ

The Charles County Department of Emergency Services Facebook page posted, โWelcoming home from the Hospital the Officers that were shot in the line of duty last week. Thank you for your dedication to keeping Charles County safe!โ

On May 17, the two deputies were dispatched to a home in Waldorf to serve an arrest warrant for a probation violation on an assault charge. The suspect opened fire as the deputies began to go upstairs in the suspectโs home. One deputy was shot in the leg multiple times, while the other was struck in the arm/chest. Both officers were flown to a Baltimore trauma center.

At the time of the shooting, the initial press release listed the officers assigned to patrol as a 10-year-veteran and another as having less than one year of experience.
