LA PLATA, Md — On May 24, the Charles County Department of Emergency Services welcomed back from the hospital the two officers who were shot last week while responding to a call.

Both officers rode together as a crowd celebrated their return at the District Three station. Several vehicles from the department escorted them.ย  Diane Richardson, the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s media relations officer said, โ€œIt was important to give the staff and employees an opportunity to show their support, and they had the officers in their thoughts.โ€

The Charles County Department of Emergency Services Facebook page posted, โ€œWelcoming home from the Hospital the Officers that were shot in the line of duty last week. Thank you for your dedication to keeping Charles County safe!โ€

On May 17, the two deputies were dispatched to a home in Waldorf to serve an arrest warrant for a probation violation on an assault charge. The suspect opened fire as the deputies began to go upstairs in the suspectโ€™s home. One deputy was shot in the leg multiple times, while the other was struck in the arm/chest. Both officers were flown to a Baltimore trauma center.

At the time of the shooting, the initial press release listed the officers assigned to patrol as a 10-year-veteran and another as having less than one year of experience.
