DUNKIRK, Md. — A Huntingtown woman has been charged with misdemeanor theft following an incident at a Dunkirk Walmart in which store loss prevention reported unpaid merchandise concealed in a shopping cart and backpack, according to charging documents.

Court records identify the defendant as Beth Marie Adamson, 31, of Huntingtown. The incident occurred on Dec. 17, 2025, at the Walmart located on Town Center Boulevard.

According to the statement of probable cause, a Maryland State Police trooper responded after a Walmart loss prevention officer reported a suspected theft. Investigators reported that Adamson scanned and paid for some items but exited the checkout area with additional merchandise that had not been scanned, including items placed beneath the cart and inside a jacket and backpack.

Store personnel reported the total value of the unpaid items was $311.56, while items that were paid for totaled approximately $100, records show. During questioning, Adamson acknowledged forgetting about some of the items and identified “The Christmas Tree” as one of the products she paid for, according to the report.

Adamson was charged with theft of $100 to under $1,500, a misdemeanor. She was released on her own recognizance the same day.

Court records show a trial scheduling hearing is set for Jan. 28, 2026, in Calvert County District Court.
