CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — August is Child Support Awareness Month, and the Charles County Department of Social Services is highlighting resources designed to help parents support their children while offering two Child Support Amnesty Days for people with outstanding warrants.
Every child has a right to receive support from both parents, whether the parents are separated, divorced or were never married. The Charles County Child Support Administration works with both parents to provide the financial, medical and emotional support children need to grow and thrive.
As part of Child Support Awareness Month, the Charles County Department of Social Services is hosting a Child Support Community Day as well as two Amnesty Days.
The Child Support Amnesty Days will be held Monday, Aug. 24, and Thursday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. at the Charles County Circuit Court, Room F.
The amnesty opportunity is available to anyone with an outstanding warrant for child support. According to the county, Amnesty Day provides an opportunity to resolve the warrant without fear of arrest.
Participants are encouraged to make a good-faith payment toward their child support arrears before arriving.
The amnesty program ends Aug. 31, 2026. Those who are unable to attend either Amnesty Day may still contact MaryAnne Thompson by phone during August.
