The Calvert County Sheriffโs Office, volunteers from the Maryland State Police and the Department of Natural Resources police, along with the Optimist Clubs of Calvert County will be sponsoring the annual Shop with a Cop program on Saturday, Dec. 12.ย
The Shop with a Cop program joins underprivileged children with local police officers, providing the children with money to shop for Christmas presents for their families and themselves. This year, we will be providing 70 children and their families with a memorable holiday experience.ย
The event begins with the police officers picking up the children and transporting them to Outback Steakhouse where they will be graciously served with a morning snack.ย They will then be escorted in marked police cruisers, complete with lights and sirens, to the Prince Frederick Wal-Mart.ย The procession of vehicles with lights and sirens activated should be a spectacular sight as they travel down Main Street to the south entrance onto Md. Rt. 4 and then north to Wal-Mart.ย Once at Wal-Mart the children will be allowed to purchase items for themselves and family members totaling $100 per child. After shopping, they will be taken back to Outback Steakhouse for a breakfast buffet.ย While at Outback, volunteers will be assisting the children with wrapping their presents before the officers transport them back to their homes.
