St. Mary’s City, MD – The Sixth Annual Watermelon One-Act Play Festival (WOAF) hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM) in St. Mary’s City at the Bruce Davis Theater in Montgomery Hall will be held this year June 2 – 3. Adjudication sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m., 1 p.m. 4 pm. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 2. The Finals begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 3 and include Dinner and an Awards Ceremony. Winning categories will be for best overall script, production/director, ensemble, and performance awards plus the Audience Choice Award. Each Saturday session includes performances of three to four different plays plus the adjudication period after the conclusion of each block. Audience members with tickets may vote in the Saturday sessions for favorite play. The data will be used to determine the “wild card” finalist – a play that received high audience votes but did not get selected by the judges to advance to the Finals on Sunday. Sunday finals include performances from four to six Finalists (including he “wild card”) followed by a 30-minute break where food and beverages will be served as the Judges determine the winners. Audience members with tickets may vote in the Sunday Finals for their favorite play which will determine the Audience Choice Award – independent from the Judges’ selections.  Tickets may be purchased at the door by cash or check (no credit cards) up to 30 minutes before each session and the Finals. No reservations are necessary. Prices are: $12 for each session ($10 for students and seniors); $20 for Finals to include food and beverages; $15 for students and seniors. A Festival Pass for both days is priced at $55 ($50 for students and seniors). Volunteers are needed for technical rehearsals on Thursday, June 1 beginning at 4 p.m. and on Friday starting at 10:30 a.m. and for concessions during the first three sessions on Saturday. No special skills are required – merely an interest in learning and helping out. Water, sodas, and food for volunteers will be provided along with a free Festival pass. A Special Guest will serve as Adjudicator for the Sunday Finals – the regional representative of The Dramatist Guild of America. This Festival is made possible in part by a grant from the St. Mary’s County Arts Council, awarded by the Maryland State Arts Council. Town Creek Pool Fundraising

Memorial Day weekend heralds the unofficial start of summer, and thoughts naturally turn to visits to the beach and/or to the local neighborhood pool. Cyndy Cartwright (Co-Chair of the Town Creek Pool Fund-Raising Committee) and Marie Rose (member, TCPFC) are coordinating efforts to re-open the now-closed Town Creek Pool. The Pool was built in 1965; the original pipes developed a significant leak in 2016, and the pool has been closed since 2017. It cannot be re-opened until repairs are made. The Pool is within the Town Creek subdivision – one of the older St. Mary’s County communities and is without a Homeowners’ Association and the subsequent revenue it would provide. Town Creek Recreation, Inc. has set a fund-raising goal of $150,000. Please consider donating to the 501 c7 Town Creek Capital Improvement Campaign to help re-open the pool. Donors will be publically acknowledged. Donations will lbe received through December 31, 2018 and may be made payable to: Town Creek Pool Recreation, Inc. (please write “TCCIC” in the memo section) and sent to : Town Creek Recreation Inc., PO Box 851 in Califormia, MD. 20619. You may also donate online: www.towncreekpool.com.
