Bay Net photographer Tim Bell caught the aftermath Saturday of a collision between a Mercedes-Benz convertable and a Toyota Celica on northbound Route 5 at Gallant Green Road in Hughesville, just north of the new Hughesville bypass.
The Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.
Althought a 45 m.p.h speed limit is posted in the area, drivers often speed in excess of 65 m.p.h., leading local residents to dub the bypass “The Indianapolis Speedway.”
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
