LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Fire and rescue crews responded early this morning, March 7, to a reported commercial structure fire at Rucci’s Italian Kitchen & Grille, located at 22685 Washington Street in Leonardtown.

The call was received at 2:32 a.m., after law enforcement officers arrived on scene reported smelling smoke and saw an active fire in the restaurant’s kitchen area. Dispatchers upgraded the assignment to a commercial structure fire, prompting a multi‑unit response.

Numerous units from Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding companies were dispatched, including Ambulance 199, and multiple chief officers. Additional support units, and the Fire Duty Chief, were also alerted.

Responding units were advised of active smoke conditions and confirmed fire involvement in the kitchen upon arrival.

No injuries were immediately reported. Firefighters worked to contain the fire and assessed extension within the structure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The restaurant stated the fire was minor and they will be open as usual at 11 AM today, 3/7!
