Commissioners Announce the Appointment of Dianna E. Abney As New Acting Health Officer

The Charles County Commissioners and the Charles County Department of Health are pleased to announce the appointment of Dianna E. Abney, M.D. as Acting Health Officer for Charles County  effective Dec. 12, 2012.  Dr. Abney is a physician specializing in pediatrics who has been in practice for over 20 years in Waldorf with the Cambridge Pediatrics Practice.  She received her undergraduate   degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983 and her medical degree from Tulane University in 1989.  She completed her residency at Howard University and DC General Hospitals. 

Dr. Abney previously worked at the Department of Health as the Deputy Health Officer in charge of medical and also as the medical director of the Child Abuse and Neglect Program.   She is well known in the community and possesses an in-depth understanding of the health issues specific to the county.  Dr. Abney said, “I am pleased to step into this position and look forward to working with the community, local government and the health department staff to improve the health outcomes of the residents of Charles County.”
