LEONARDTOWN, Md. — St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks is inviting children with disabilities to a sensory-friendly evening of playground activities and glow-in-the-dark fun during its next TR Kids Club Parents Night Out event.

The “Glow in the Park” program will be held Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Leonard Hall Recreation Center, 23145 Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown.

The event is open to children with disabilities ages 5 to 13.

While children participate in the supervised program, parents and caregivers can enjoy a night out. Participants will have access to the recreation center playground and take part in glow-in-the-dark activities with trained staff.

Organizers noted that no strobing or flashing lights will be used. Parents are encouraged to notify staff ahead of time about any specific light sensitivities or fears their child may have involving semi-darkened areas.

TR Kids Club is designed to provide children with disabilities additional opportunities for social and recreational activities while giving parents and caregivers a break.

The broader program includes art projects, games, therapeutic activities and pizza, with a different theme offered during each monthly session. Participants may bring their own food when needed because of food allergies.

Children must be able to provide self-care independently and function in a group of more than 10 participants with a 1-to-4 staffing ratio.

Registration Information

The Sept. 11 session is limited to 12 participants, with a minimum of five required.

The cost is $45 for St. Mary’s County residents and $50 for nonresidents.

Registration is open through noon Sept. 4. Late registrations will not be accepted.
