RIVERDALE, Md. — Prince George’s County residents will have several opportunities to explore local history, culture, music and community events throughout September as the M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation rolls out its fall programming.

The schedule includes free and low-cost events across the county, ranging from museum experiences and cultural festivals to wine and beer tastings and live entertainment.

The History Community Days Series begins Saturday, Aug. 29, and continues Sept. 12, 19, and 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various historic sites and museums throughout Prince George’s County.

The free series will give visitors opportunities to explore local history through guided and self-guided museum tours, scavenger hunts, workshops, cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts, giveaways, and activities with community partners.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, Celebrate Africa will take over Fairwood Community Park from 1 to 6 p.m.

The free festival will highlight cultures from across the African continent with performances by Amadou Kouyate, Osagyefo Dance Company, Mlanjeni Magical Theater, and Armand Ntep and Memphis Gold.

According to M-NCPPC, the Washington metropolitan region is home to the fourth-largest African immigrant community in the United States.

The following day, Fiesta de la Familia will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex.

Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., the free event will include live entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s activities, community resources, food and craft vendors, and giveaways. Transportation will also be available, with attendees asked to register in advance to select a shuttle location.

Later in the month, Unwine returns to Patuxent River Park on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The festival will feature local wineries and breweries alongside live entertainment, boutiques, food trucks, and other vendors.

Also on Sept. 26, the Latinas in Aviation Global Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the College Park Aviation Museum.

The free Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will recognize Latina pioneers in aviation while highlighting Latino culture through music, stories, and community activities.

The September programming is part of M-NCPPC’s broader calendar of recreational, historical, and cultural events offered throughout Prince George’s County.
