The Department of Community Services is pleased to announce upcoming recreational activities:

Annual Halloween Party (Saturday, Oct. 24)
Get your child in the Halloween spirit and bring them to this fun gymnastics party. Enjoy games, arts and crafts, prizes, goodie bags, music, and refreshments. Preregistration is encouraged. This party is for children up to 15 years old at the Elite Gymnastics Center (2745 Old Washington Road, Waldorf) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The registration fee is $10 for residents and $12 for non-residents.

Pumpkin Carving and Scarecrow Building (Saturday, Oct. 24)
Bring your child to carve their own pumpkin and create their own scarecrow at the Smallwood Community Center (4990 Indian Head Highway, Indian Head). Pumpkins will be provided. Bring an old shirt, pants, and pillow case for the scarecrow, and we will supply the rest of the supplies. Parent participation is required. The registration fee is $10 for residents and $12 for non-residents.

Not Your Ordinary Pumpkin Carving (Monday, Oct. 26 and Wednesday, Oct. 28)
Let your child discover their creative side at this fun pumpkin carving. Facial features, eyes, mouth, and expression will reveal itself as you transform your pumpkin into a work of art. All supplies and pumpkins included. This carving is for children 10 years old and over. The fee is $10 for residents and $12 for non-residents. The carvings will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Mattawoman Community Center (10145 Berry Road, Waldorf) on Monday, Oct. 26 and at Wade Community Center (2300 Smallwood Drive, Waldorf) on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Pirates at the Pool (Friday, Nov. 13)
Your child will not want to miss the splashing fun at this party. Bring your child aged 2-12 years old dressed as a pirate with a bathing suit under the costume. All participants must be accompanied by an adult. The party will be held at the Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center (5305 Piney Church Road, Waldorf) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The fee is $15 for residents, $17 for non-residents, and $20 at the door.
