PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Calvert County medic crew stepped in to help a family in need last week after spotting a young child riding in a vehicle without a proper car seat.

On Dec. 4, 2025, PMIC Katie Kreider and driver Brandi Elliott were on duty in the Prince Frederick area when they noticed the unsecured child in the back of a passenger vehicle traveling on Route 4, according to CALS officials. The crew followed the vehicle into a Walmart parking lot and watched as the occupants went inside.

Elliott, a CALS life member, entered the store and found the driver, who told her the family’s car seat had broken and she couldn’t afford a replacement. Elliott purchased a new seat herself and ensured it was installed correctly in the vehicle, officials said.

CALS leadership praised the act as an example of members’ commitment to public safety and the well-being of county residents, noting that a potentially dangerous situation was resolved through personal initiative and compassion.
