GREAT MILLS, Md.ย – Flat Iron Farms has canceled their annual Christmas lights display. They said it’s all because of COVID-19 fears. An online statement explained the decision, “We have thought about every possibility for this to happen this year but this is the safest option out there for the safety of the county and the employees that help put this on.”

The farm said the drive-through light display was canceled as well. In addition to lights, the annual free light display also featured pony rides, shopping for gifts, a Christmas village, visits with Santa and other activities.

Many social media users agreed with the decision:

“Such a hard choice! Thank you for making such a difficult decision in order to keep our community safer.”

“We appreciate how difficult this decision must have beenโ€”we will sure miss you all! But we pray you all stay safe and healthy and we look forward to next year.”

Other fans of the display asked them to reconsider:

“Please consider putting on your lights!!ย  My girls have continually brought up that Corona wonโ€™t stop our favorite Christmas tradition!! My girls love it and sing to all the songs & love to pick their favorite song every year. I seriously canโ€™t bear to think that the farm will be dark and silent this holiday season… especially when so many of us (including me) need those beautiful bright, happy lights and songs of Christmas joy!!! Totally understand about cancelling the onsite activities but please donโ€™t turn off the lights.”

“Why the drive thru portion????ย  Give kids something to look forward too and they will be in their own cars, so no contact.”
