John Stephen Galvin, 48, of Annandale, VA, owner and operator of an Annandale accounting firm, pled guilty Thursday to attempted tax evasion, announced U.S. Attorney for the District of Marylandย  Rod Rosenstein.

According to the agreed statement of facts presented to the court, Galvin, a Certified Public Accountant, owned and operated Galvin, Moses & Associates, Inc. (GMA) located in Annandale which provided accounting and tax services to clients.

For each tax year between 1996 through 2002, Galvin earned at least $60,000 per year from operating GMA, and an additional $1.2 million in income from other sources during that same time period.

Galvin attempted to conceal this income from the IRS by failing to file an individual income tax return for each tax year between 1996 and 2002. Additionally, Galvin filed tax returns for GMA for tax years 1999 and 2000 which falsely reported that GMA earned no gross receipts, when in fact GMA received substantial gross receipts.

In all, Galvin failed to report to the IRS income totaling about $1,620,000 and attempted to evade income taxes of more than $400,000.

Galvin faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.ย  U.S. District Court Judge Roger W. Titus scheduled sentencing for June 26, 2007.
