The 27th annual St. Mary’s Crab festival will be held at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 9. Gates open at 11 a.m. and the festivities end at 9 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person, with children under 12 getting in free. Food costs are additional. The Festival has been moved from Sunday to Saturday to allow for extended hours of operation.
The Crab Festival will offer a lot of things in addition to crabs.
This year’s Festival will feature more live music. From noon to 4 pm, Southbound Band will entertain with country, southern rock and some classic pop music. David Norris and friends will take the stage around 4 pm and will play until 6 pm when The 25th Hour Band will take over and feature their mix of classic and contemporary rock and roll until 9 pm. In addition, the Southern Maryland Sound Barbershop Chorus will be performing in the auditorium in the early afternoon and may wander the grounds singing, weather permitting.
There will be a classic car show and arts and crafts vendors. More children’s activities are planned for this year, including face painting, craft projects, such as making and coloring a crab, and pony rides. The John Deere classic toy display will return. You can get hearing and vision tested by trained Lions volunteers.
Non-seafood dishes are available, in addition to steamed crabs, crab cakes and soft shell crab sandwiches. And don’t forget to leave room for desserts, such as snow cones and ice cream.
