'Crabs drop slugfest to Lancaster

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs faced off against the Lancaster Barnstormers in the second installment of their three-game series Saturday night, Sept. 14 at Regency Furniture. In one of their final tune-ups before the playoffs, the Blue Crabs called upon left-handed pitcher, Logan Williamson, to continue their modest two-game winning streak. The Barnstormers sent a lefty of their in Rich Rundles to the hill in hopes of earning the victory. With both teams knotted at 6-6 in after regulation, the ‘stormers were able to tally four runs in the eleventh to earn the 10-7 victory.

After surrendering three runs in the first inning, the Blue Crabs bats answered back with two runs in the first and second innings. Centerfielder Jeremy Owens smashed a two-run homer in the first inning to score rightfielder Sean Smith. In the second, it was another two-run blast, this time off of the bat of catcher, Alvin Colina, bringing home 3B Cesar Nicolas.

With the game knotted at 6-6, the game moved to the eleventh inning. In the eleventh, the ‘stormers were able to break the tie as they tallied four runs in the inning. After breaking the tie on Olmo Rosario’s RBI double, first basemen, Travis Denker hit a three-run home run that just cleared the low wall in left. The Blue Crabs would rally for a run in the home half of the eleventh but couldn’t complete the comeback as Barnstormers held on for the 10-7 victory.

UP NEXT – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will look to finish the 2013 Atlantic League Regular Season on a high-note as they take on the Lancaster Barnstormers in the final game of their three-game series, Sunday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium.
