UPDATED MONDAY, JULY 6 at 10 a.m.
Hughesville, MD – An early-morning fire that totally destroyed a mobile food trailer was deliberately set, state officials announced. The blaze occurred Sunday morning, July 5 shortly after 4 a.m. in a tavern parking lot at the corner of Route 231 and Brandywine Road in Hughesville.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire caused $5,000 damage to the trailer, which was owned by Jeffery Rawlings.
An unknown suspect or suspects “intentionally set fire to the interior of the mobile food trailer completely destroying the structure,” stated Dfm. Melissa Decker.
A passerby discovered the trailer ablaze. Over 30 firefighters from Hughesville, Benedict, Baden, La Plata, Mechanicsville, Prince Frederick and Waldorf were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze. The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes. No injuries have been reported.
Decker reported the Charles County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

HUGHESVILLE, MD – On Sunday, July 5 at approximately 4:15 a.m., there was a report of a fire in Hughesville at Jimmie’s Corner, which is located at Route 231 and Route 381.
As units arrived on the scene, they found that the crab trailer sitting in a parking lot that was used to sell steamed crabs was on fire.
The trailer was a total loss. Units from Hughesville, Benedict and Mechanicsville were on the scene.
No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation.
