D.C. Man Faces DUI, Cocaine And Assault Charges After Calvert Traffic Stop

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Washington, D.C., man is facing multiple criminal charges after Maryland State Police alleged a traffic stop for erratic driving led to the discovery of suspected cocaine. Investigators also allege he later assaulted a correctional officer while being processed at the Calvert County Detention Center, according to court documents.

Dontay DeAngelo Scott, 49, of Washington, D.C., was charged in the District Court for Calvert County with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis, possession of a controlled dangerous substance while confined in a detention facility, second-degree assault and second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.

Court records show Scott was arrested on July 26, 2026, through a Statement of Charges (SOC) on-view arrest.

According to the statement of probable cause, a Maryland State Police trooper was patrolling southbound on Route 4 near West Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick shortly after 12:40 a.m. on July 26 when he observed a white GMC Yukon repeatedly failing to maintain a single lane.

Investigators alleged the SUV drifted across the lane divider multiple times, at one point crossing approximately two-thirds of the way over the dotted lane markings before returning to its lane. The vehicle also crossed the white edge line several times before the trooper initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Route 4 and Route 231.

According to court documents, the trooper immediately detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Scott through his driver’s license, allegedly displayed bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech and slow movements. When asked where he was coming from, Scott reportedly told the trooper he was driving home after a cookout.

Investigators also observed an empty bottle of Flying Dog 8.3% alcohol malt beverage inside the vehicle.

Scott agreed to exit the SUV but allegedly refused to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests after the trooper explained the procedures. He was then placed under arrest for driving under the influence at approximately 12:49 a.m. and advised of his rights under Maryland’s DR-15 implied consent law.

According to the charging documents, Scott was later offered an Intoximeter breath test at the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack but allegedly refused.

After Scott was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, correctional staff conducted a search before booking.

According to the statement of probable cause, during the search, a plastic baggie allegedly fell from Scott’s left pant leg. Investigators reported the bag contained a substance they believed, based on their training and experience, to be suspected cocaine.

Because the suspected narcotics were allegedly discovered after Scott entered the detention facility, investigators additionally charged him with possession of a controlled dangerous substance while confined in a detention facility.

Court documents further allege that while correctional officers were conducting a strip search, Scott assaulted one of the officers.

According to the charging documents, a deputy alleged Scott kicked him in the groin while he was attempting to secure him.

Scott remains held without bond following his July 27, 2026, bail review before Judge Michelle R. Saunders. His trial is scheduled for Sept. 22, 2026, in the Calvert County District Court.
