David Lawrence "Worm" Thompson

David L. Thompson (Worm), 77, of Sandgates passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2025, due to heart, lung, and kidney complications.  He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on December 23, 1947, to Joseph Zach and Catherine Frances Thompson, both deceased.  He had three older brothers – Joseph Wilson, James Howard, and Francis Leroy – also all deceased.

For 44 years Worm was an independent owner/operator of a dump truck and was a heavy equipment operator.  He was a talented mechanic, repairing and reviving many gas engines.  He also rebuilt his own diesel engine more than once.  In his younger years he attended many NASCAR races and fire house dances with friends.  He liked to play cards and watch the Dallas Cowboys.

He thoroughly enjoyed driving.  He was always available to drive if you had some place to go.  If you were broke down somewhere all you had to do was give him the address, and he would shortly be there for you with old country music playing on the radio. His theory was that you were never lost as long as you had road in front of you. He was generous with everyone and would give you anything he had if you needed it.

Worm is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Mrs. Worm) of 57 years; daughter Donna Pleger (Bruce); and son Donald (Duck) (Trish).  He had two grandsons, Brad Pleger (Jharline) and Matthew Pleger (Kadesha), and one great-grandson, Caelan Pleger, with another great-grandchild expected in July.

The family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to the nurses and aides from Hospice for their support during this time with a very special thank you to Sheronda from Visiting Angels, who he had an immediate connection with.

Family will receive friends on February 25, 2025, beginning at 10:30 am at Brinsfield Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.  Burial will immediately follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.  Pallbearers will be J.F. Williams, Brad Pleger, Matthew Pleger, Margaret (Monkey) Ford, Dennis Buckler, and Joe White.  Honorary pallbearers will be Minor Buckler, Bruce Pleger, Buddy White, Danny White, Marvin White, and Tom White.

Everyone is invited to join the family at Olde Breton Inn, Leonardtown, MD, following.
