PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — As the school year came to a close, Calvert County school officials and the Board of Education (BOE) honored this year’s outstanding volunteers and substitute teachers at the June 11 meeting.
Each of Calvert’s schools has the opportunity to choose one volunteer and one substitute teacher to receive this award. The district operates 13 elementary schools, six middle schools and four high schools.
Director of Human Resources Zachary Seawell introduced both groups of awardees, thanking them for their dedication to the schools.
“Our volunteers give their time, energy and talents to help students succeed, and their contributions are truly invaluable,” Seawell said.
Seawell went on to say that the evening was also about thanking all the volunteers in the county for the work they do contributing to student success. Currently, the school system has more than 9,000 approved volunteers.
Moving on to substitute teacher awards, Seawell asked, “Substitutes, what would we do without you?”
“Substitutes step in the classroom with little notice and make an immediate impact. Here we express our thanks to all of our substitutes serving across this district. You represent a critical part of our workforce, and we depend on you on a daily basis.”
Seawell noted that the district currently has 598 active substitute teachers. See the full list of honorees below.
