The second day of the Southern Maryland Holiday Tournament brought four more thrilling games. Kicking off the afternoon Dec. 29, the La Plata Girls were looking for their first victory of the season in the girls consolation game but, fell short against Great Mills 39-33.
The Warriors were led by All Tournament selection Paige DeMent’s hard work under the basket and her 11 points. Great Mills was led by their All Tournament point guard Tiffany Moreiera (8 points) and forward TaQuana Gordon (14 points).
In the Boyโs Consolation Game, the Chopticon Braves got their first win of the season, knocking off Leonardtown 54-43 behind Rashaud Dent’s 17 points. Josh Reeves was names as Chopticon’s All-Tourney player as he added 11 points. Three point specialist Chris Campeggio scored 13 for the Raiders and Marcus Robinson was named as Leonardtown’s All Tourney selection.

The Girlโs championship game was won by the Chopticon Lady Braves 40-33 over Leonardtown. The Raiders were led by their two All Tournament selections, Sara Overs and Madison Pachner.
The Braves offense was led by super freshman guard Ty Priest who scored 10 points and had 12 assists. She was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Girls Tournament. Aysha Short was also named toย the All Tourney Team and added 12 points for the Lady Braves.

The Boyโs championship game was won by Great Mills 60-50 over Walter Johnson (Bethesda, MD). All tourney selections for Walter Johnson were Guard Harrison Gibert and Halid Hamidi. The Hornets did not take the lead until midway through the second quarter but, dominated the rest of the way led by Most Outstanding Tournament Player, Senior guard Earl Castain (7 points 11 assists). DeAndre Wilkerson was named as the Hornets other All Tourney Player and added 13 points. Great Mills’ leading scorer was Brandon Teston with 17 points.
