La Plata, MD – Itโ€™s quite possible Bianca Dashawn Thurston, 26 of Washington, DC, didnโ€™t know what exactly was waiting for her when she walked into Charles County Circuit Court Thursday, April 28, but by the time all was said and done, it was handcuffs and a trip to jail.

Thurston was facing theft charges $1,000 to $10,000 from May 19, 2015.

She pled guilty Feb. 9, 2016 in Charles County Circuit Court and was facing sentencing when she ran into more trouble.

Charles County Assistant Public Defender Gabrielle Green asked Judge Amy J. Bragunier to reset sentencing for a later date, but Charles County Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney Sarah K. Freeman said she had a problem with that.

โ€œThe issue in this case was theft,โ€ Freeman said, โ€œbut the problem is, she was charged with assault last Friday. One standard condition for someone pending sentencing is that they donโ€™t pick up any new charges.

โ€œShe wants a continuance,โ€ Freeman added, โ€œbut she has a history in Virginia. In fact, she is on probation in Virginia for a felony conviction of theft. A week before her sentencing she picks up a new assault charge.โ€

โ€œThese are just allegations at this point,โ€ Green asserted.

But Freeman had another ace up her sleeve, this in the form of a warrant for Thurstonโ€™s arrest from the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

โ€œShe failed to appear back in January,โ€ Bragunier noted.

Freeman added the defendant failed to pay restitution as ordered by the court from the 2015 charge.

โ€œItโ€™s not right to ask for a continuance when she has a new charge,โ€ Freeman added.

The deputy placed cuffs on Thurston and she was led out of the courtroom.

Chances are very good sheโ€™ll be back soon.
