LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – As a result of air quality issues and the presence of mold spores in parts of the building, Esperanza Middle School (EMS) will remain closed to students and staff during the week.
Due to the scope of the remediation area, the opening of EMS for students will be delayed, with the following schedule for the remainder of this week:
- EMS staff will be teleworking Wednesday-Friday.
- Students will participate in virtual instruction on Thursday and Friday, August 22-23, 2024.
- Tech Support will be available for students on Thursday and Friday.
- Schoology support resources have been provided.
- Additional details have been provided to students and families.
Our priority remains the well-being of all EMS staff, students, and families. Understanding and patience is appreciated as we work diligently to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

They had the entirety of summer to remediate this mold. And yet ….. they kicked the can down the road to where now children can’t go to school. Worthless school system.
Nobody thought to check this a month ago?
At least this time Terry and Heather are complaining about something LOCAL.
AGREE!! I taught there for 5 years when mold wasn’t considered a problem.
This was in question back in last school yr .Nothing was done it was brushed under the rug.Now parents have to make other arrangements for their children. How long will it take to remove the mold parents have a right to know this . They also have a right to know what was done to remove it & by what mold removal company..All sounds like a hide a job was done and now probably hide some more 😏
