
SCOTLAND, Md. — A Lexington Park man was charged after deputies reported recovering a loaded stolen handgun during an investigation in Scotland.
Dayvon Maurice West, 35, of Lexington Park, was charged with possession of a regulated firearm known to be stolen, wearing or carrying a handgun on his person and wearing or carrying a loaded handgun on his person.
The charges stem from a June 24, 2026, incident in the area of Point Lookout State Park in Scotland.
Charging documents state St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office personnel located West near a vehicle at the park and reported finding a firearm inside a bag he was carrying. The firearm was described in court documents as a MAP Shield 9mm handgun.
Investigators reported the handgun had been stolen from a residence in La Plata. The firearm was loaded with nine rounds, charging documents state.
West was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for an emergency evaluation before charges were filed, according to court documents.
An arrest warrant was issued June 25 by Judge Tina Jenkins and served June 26. Court records show West was initially held without bond and later released on recognizance following a June 26 bail review hearing before Judge James Tanavage.
A preliminary hearing is set for July 24, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court.
