Charles County Sheriff’s Officer M. Smith was patrolling the 1000 block of St. Ignatius Drive at 2 a.m., March 25 when he observed three people fighting near a vehicle in a parking lot.
Officer Smith took immediate action and stopped the fight. An investigation revealed the accused, a 14-year-old Suitland boy and a 15-year-old Washington, D.C. boy, approached the victim, a 42-year-old Germantown man, as he exited his vehicle.
The accused, intending to steal the vehicle, assaulted the victim. The victim was attempting to fight off the accused when Officer Smith arrived.
The accused were arrested and charged with attempted car-jacking and second-degree assault. They were detained at the Sheriff’s Office’s Court Holding Facility for a juvenile hearing.
