MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Rows of vibrant summer flowers, the scent of fresh lavender and a welcoming farm shop filled with locally crafted goods are drawing visitors to Dixon Family Farm, where the annual U-Cut Flower experience has become one of Southern Maryland’s favorite seasonal outings.
Located in Mechanicsville, the family-owned farm invites guests to stroll through colorful flower fields and handpick their own bouquets while enjoying a peaceful countryside escape.

Visitors begin by selecting a container and receiving clippers before wandering through rows of seasonal blooms, including zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos and other summer flowers. Each bouquet is designed entirely by the guest, making every visit a unique experience.

Beyond the flower fields, the farm offers opportunities to slow down and explore more of what is grown and created on the property.
Guests can stop by the farm’s lavender distillery to learn how homegrown lavender is transformed into essential oils and handcrafted products sold in the farm shop. The behind-the-scenes look provides visitors with a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into many of the farm’s signature offerings.

Inside the farm shop, shelves are stocked with products sourced directly from the farm, including locally harvested honey, handcrafted soaps, candles, bath and body products, dried lavender bundles and seasonal gifts inspired by the farm’s harvests.
One of the newest additions to the shop is a collaboration with local tattoo artist INKED MRIIA, by Mariia Plakhotnyk. The partnership features original farm-inspired artwork available on exclusive merchandise, giving visitors another way to remember their time at the farm.
The experience extends beyond flowers and shopping. Friendly donkeys often greet guests, providing another memorable stop for families and children exploring the property.

Owner Claudine Dixon said the farm was created to provide visitors with a place to reconnect with nature while supporting local agriculture through experiences and products grown or produced on-site.

Whether visitors are creating a fresh bouquet, browsing locally made products or simply enjoying a relaxing afternoon in the flower fields, Dixon Family Farm offers an opportunity to experience Southern Maryland’s agricultural heritage in a hands-on way.
The U-Cut Flower season continues throughout the summer, with bloom availability and operating hours varying based on weather and growing conditions. Visitors are encouraged to check Dixon Family Farm’s website and social media pages for the latest schedule before planning their trip.
