
Doris “Midge” Plater Spottswood, age 96, of Washington DC, passed away on October 18, 2023. She was born on October 2, 1927, in Baltimore, MD, and was the youngest of eight children.
Doris, known for her strength and outspoken nature, had a tremendous amount of inner resilience. She was one of the first women to be diagnosed with and survive breast cancer, showcasing her unwavering determination. Even at the age of 96, she remained as tough as nails, never backing down from voicing her opinions and standing up for what she believed in. Doris cherished her family and friends above all else.
Doris attended Brooks High School in Calvert County, MD. After her education, she went on to have a successful career and retired from the GSA.
Doris “Midge” Plater Spottswood will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Her legacy lives on through her loving family and the impact she made on those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Portia E. Plater, Grafton L. Plater, and Anthony P. Plater, as well as 5 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her son, Grafton P. Plater, and great-great grandson, Lincoln Shipman.
