It is with our deepest sorrow that we amend our previous article regarding Katie Vanmeter. Regretfully, we were informed that Katie has taken a turn for the worse. While we will be canceling our Foundation 4 Heroes’ trip to Pasadena to see her and the family, we instead send our thoughts to them with wishes for peace and comfort during this time. Katie’s story of strength in the face of adversity touched so many. We applaud her for her fight, courage, love of her family and for being an inspiration. Be well Vanmeter family. Special thanks to everyone in the community that showed support in Katie’s honor. True heroes – each of you.
Foundation 4 Heroes
“I have seen a lot over the last few months and I can tell you what you guys do does make a huge difference to the kid’s life and how they handle illnesses.” – Gabriel Sanchez’s Father referring to how the Foundation 4 Heroes helped his family.
I want to introduce you to an amazing woman. She is battling Cancer for a fifth time in five years. So, she has beat Cancer FOUR times!! She has endured multiple surgeries, chemo, drugs, radiation and more but this time they aren’t helping her feel better. With her track record who would count her out; or want to be on the wrong side of meeting her in a dark alley because she is one tough Mother!
Katie Vanmeter is a wife and a Mom. Like any parent she loves CJ, her 5-year old son, more than life itself. Katie has been sick, and fighting the beast known as “Cancer”, most of CJ’s life, but she wears a happy face as much as possible for his sake.
They live in Pasadena, Maryland and the community there has been unbelievably supportive during this ordeal. They have held fundraisers and marathons to help support the family and equally important they have been a strong and encouraging group of friends.
You can tell what kind of person you are when in a time of need swarms of people volunteer, reach out and offer to assist. Katie is clearly loved within her community.
Katie is a true Hero. We wonder if we would be as strong in the face of adversity.
The Foundation 4 Heroes heard Katie wanted to take her son to Disney but due to her illness she isn’t able to travel. As an organization, F4H would love to help CJ’s dream eventually come true but we are not yet at that place in collecting donations and corporate sponsorship.
What we are going to do is bring Disney and Universal Studios to them. Friday, February 13th, we are assembling an all-hands-on-deck trip to surprise her son and bring him as many characters as we can. Snow White from Once Upon A Princess is joining us too.
Are you interested in making a difference? Grab your best costume and plan a trip to Pasadena. Come support Katie and see what the Foundation 4 Heroes is all about. The first two $500 donations toward CJ’s trust fund http://www.gofundme.com/cjandkatie will get a ride in the Foundation 4 Heroes’ Hero Hummer. We will be departing from Wildewood Shopping Center at 1:30pm on Friday.
We are accepting superhero- and Disney-themed gifts to bring up as well. Special gifts for Katie are awesome, too. You can drop donations or gifts off at Tantaztic Tanning in Wildewood Shopping Center or with Nikki Davis at Stanley Martin Homes in Wildewood. We will be happy to deliver them.
The following weekend the Foundation 4 Heroes will be traveling to Georgetown Hospital to see our local hero, Hudson, and 42 other children. We are excited to also join Once Upon A Princess with the coronation of Abby, The Warrior Princess, in Mechanicsville on February 28th.
Thank you for your support, donations, sharing of our posts and willingness to spread the word about the Foundation 4 Heroes and our mission. With your help we can all make a difference.
