At 2:48 p.m. July 9, a lookout for a possible drunk driver was dispatched and Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Dfc. Gary R. Ward located the vehicle, a white Chevrolet Suburban, in the area of Town Center Blvd. in Dunkirk.

The vehicle traveled completely over the shoulder line and onto the shoulder of the road at Md. Rt. 4 and Brickhouse Road. Ward conducted a traffic stop at that time and made contact with the driver, later identified as Donald S. Strickland, 27, of Great Mills.

Strickland was found not to be under the influence of alcohol, but still did not pass some of the field sobriety tests.

Strickland advised Dfc. Ward that he was on prescription medicine that was making him very drowsy and he knew he should not be driving.

Consent to search the vehicle was obtained and a prescription bottle was located which contained suspected marijuana.

Strickland, whose 9-month-old son was in the vehicle with him, was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. The infant was released to Stricklandโ€™s parents.
