DUNKIRK, Md. — A motorcyclist was injured Tuesday morning in a crash that shut down part of Route 4 in Calvert County.

The incident was reported around 11:33 a.m., May 5, 2026, on Southern Maryland Boulevard near Cortland Lane in Dunkirk.

Responders arriving on the scene indicated the rider had laid the motorcycle down after encountering road debris, resulting in severe road rash.

All southbound lanes of Route 4 were temporarily shut down as emergency crews worked the scene.

The rider was transported to CalvertHealth Medical Center with injuries that are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

No other injuries were immediately reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
