On September 4, Cpl. P. Handy attempted to stop a 1989 tan Buick with Maryland registration for a vehicle equipment violation.ย
The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and attempted to flee and elude Cpl. Handy.ย The vehicle abruptly stopped on Lincoln Ave and the driver fled on foot into the South Hampton neighborhood of Lexington Park.ย Investigation into the vehicle revealed that the vehicle was sold two days prior to Jerome Antonio Gladden, 27 Lexington Park.
Gladden was located at his residence on Brighton Avenue, which is located two streets down from where the tan Buick stopped and the driver fled.ย Cpl. Handy recognized Gladden as the driver of the vehicle and arrested him.ย Gladden made a false statement to Cpl. Handy when he (Gladden) reported his 1989 tan Buick stolen.ย A computer check of the vehicle revealed the vehicle had not been reported stolen as Gladden tried to tell Cpl. Handy.ย Further check of the vehicle revealed the vehicle was not currently registered or insured and the tags displayed on the vehicle did not belong to the vehicle.ย
Gladden was charged with several traffic violations and making a false report to a police officer.
