Fatal Accident in Maryland

NEWBURG, Md. — A driver was killed Tuesday afternoon, July 15, 2025, when their vehicle became trapped beneath a UPS tractor-trailer at a major intersection in Newburg, authorities said.

The crash happened around 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of Crain Highway (U.S. Route 301) and Rock Point Road. According to emergency dispatch records, the vehicle ran underneath the trailer of the semi-truck, resulting in heavy entrapment and fatal injuries.

Emergency personnel arriving on the scene found the car lodged under the trailer. Medics determined the driver was deceased by 2:51 p.m., and the incident was designated a “Priority 4” fatality. Tactical command operations were ended shortly afterward.

Units from Rescue Engine 14, multiple medic teams, and command staff responded to the scene. Crews remained on-site for more than an hour to secure the area and assist with the investigation.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. No other injuries were reported.

The UPS tractor-trailer remained at the intersection as law enforcement and crash reconstruction specialists examined the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Crain Highway northbound at Rock Point Road is currently closed. Use caution as units operate on the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident. Expect lengthy delays and avoid the area, if possible.

  1. No one goes the speed limit on that bridge. There has been less MTA since the new bridge and no toll plaza.

    1. This is well north of the bridge and MTA patrolling jurisdiction. It sounds like the UPS was turning and either misjudged the traffic and/or the car was speeding.

    2. It didn’t happen on the bridge and at this point we don’t know the cause. Let’s just offer prayers to the family and soul of the deceased, the first responders, and the UPS driver.

  2. Bruttal crash, looked like the Truck was slowing down for the light and the driver who was killed hit him at full force. Probably distracted on their phones.
