At 12:40 am, on April 5, Charles County Sheriff’s Officer R. Brooks stopped a vehicle on Smallwood Drive for illegally changing lanes at the traffic light on southbound Crain Highway in Waldorf.
Officer Brooks found the driver was intoxicated and did not have a license. The driver, Joseph Michael Burkhard III, 24, of Waldorf was arrested and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia, brass knuckles and cocaine.
Burkhard was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a concealed deadly weapon and driving a motor vehicle on a revoked license.
He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
