
LA PLATA, Md. – The University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System, welcomes Mohammad Bassam Asad Abdallah, MD, to its growing Gastroenterology team in La Plata and Jessica Khoury, MD, to its Diabetes & Endocrinology practice in Waldorf.
“We continue to improve access to health care in Southern Maryland,” said Evalyne Bryant-Ward, vice president of ambulatory services at UM Charles Regional. “The addition of these two excellent physicians redoubles our commitment to our current and future patients and adds more health care expertise to our community.”
Dr. Abdallah earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid, Jordan and completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, followed by specialized fellowships in hepatology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and gastroenterology at the University of Missouri. Dr. Abdallah brings a global perspective and extensive clinical training in digestive health, adding depth and accessibility to specialty care for patients across Charles County and Southern Maryland.
With a strong belief in patient partnership, Dr. Abdallah focuses on diagnosing and treating a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), colorectal health and weight management.
“I’m honored to serve this vibrant and diverse community,” said Dr. Abdallah. “My goal is to make digestive health less overwhelming and more manageable by listening closely, educating patients and creating treatment plans that reflect my patients’ lives and priorities.”
Dr. Khoury brings compassionate, patient-centered care and extensive expertise in endocrine health to the heart of Charles County.
Dr. Khoury earned her medical degree from the University of Balamand in Beirut, Lebanon, completed her internal medicine residency at Roger Williams Medical Center in affiliation with Boston University and completed an endocrinology fellowship at the George Washington University School of Medicine. With a deep commitment to personalized treatment and a collaborative approach, she is passionate about helping patients manage complex endocrine conditions with the latest evidence-based care.
“It’s an honor to care for the people of Charles County,” said Dr. Khoury. “I believe in taking the time to listen and truly understand what each patient is going through. My goal is to empower individuals to take charge of their health with confidence, support and the right tools for long-term wellness.”
