Chester T. Jones
Chesapeake Beach, MD— On August 24, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Pounsberry was patrolling theย Chesapeake Beach area when he was contacted by a Drug Enforcementย detectiveย in reference to a controlled dangerousย substance (CDS) violation/exchange taking place at McDonald’s parking lot located off Bayside Road inย Chesapeake Beach.ย
The detective advised that he witnessed a CDS exchange between two individuals next to a blue/gray older model Buick four-door passenger car with the hood up.
“One of the individuals described as being a female with red/light brown hair heavy set and the other individual described as a male with a bald head,” according to charging documents.ย
The detective advised that based on their observations there was enough probable cause to detain the individuals. Pounsberry then drove to the location in a marked patrol vehicle and contacted the individuals and detained them.
Pounsberry first detained a suspect identified as Chester T. Jones, 37, of North Beach and conducted a weapons check. While Pounsberry was detaining the female, he observed Jones reach into his right pocket and retrieved a bag containing a white/tan powder substance and placed it in his mouthย attempted to swallow it.ย
Pounsberry attempted to grab the bag that was hanging out of his mouth but Jones, “was able to turn his head and rip the bag and maintained the powder substance inside of his mouth and began to chew,” charging documentsย indicated.
After a few moments police were able to convince Jones to spit the bag out of his mouth and onto the ground.
Pounsberry read Jones his Maranda Rights, then placed and held him at the location until the DEA detectives arrived on scene. While Jones was in custody inside the deputy’s vehicle the suspect stated that “you already have the drugs, just take me to jail already.”
Pounsberry placed Jones under arrest for possession of CDS heroin as well as obstructing and hindering anย investigationย byย attempting toย destroyย evidence.
Jones has a scheduledย court appearance set for Nov. 17, at the Calvert County District Courthouse. Jones faces a maximum jail sentenceย of four years and/or a maximum fine of $25,000.ย
