La Plata, MD – Fred Lee Peeples IV, 38 of Bryans Road, is a man with a lengthy association with the Maryland court system.

And he has bad luck.

After being sentenced to one year in jail for driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substanceโ€”PCPโ€”Peeples had to appear before Charles County Circuit Court Judge Amy J. Bragunier Tuesday, Sept. 1 after violating his probation on first-degree burglary and theft conspiracy charges by testing positive for cocaine.

Charles County Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney Tiffany Campbell recommended a guidelines sentence of six months active time for the probation violation.

Charles County Assistant Public Defender Allison Heldreth told Bragunier that Peeples has a young son he cares for.

โ€œHeโ€™s fearful for his son should he be incarcerated,โ€ Heldreth said. โ€œHe does have a job working in construction,โ€ she added. โ€œHeโ€™s supporting his 3-year-old son.โ€

Heldreth said Peeples did go to the health department and is dealing with his addiction issues.

โ€œIโ€™ve been doing 53 weeks of Narcotics Anonymous meeting Judge Simpson ordered,โ€ Peeples told Bragunier. โ€œI apologize for my wrong-doing.โ€

โ€œUsing PCP is learning the hard way,โ€ Bragunier said.

The judge sentenced Peeples to 15 years in the first-degree burglary charge with all but six months suspended, and 15 years in the theft case with all the time suspended.

The judge also told Peeples he must adhere to the conditions of his probation.
