SOLOMONS, Md. – The Calvert Marine Museum announces that the Drum Point Lighthouse will be temporarily closed to the public beginning Monday, May 4, 2026, to allow for a scheduled exterior painting and preservation project.

The Drum Point Lighthouse will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to take approximately 4 to 6 weeks, depending on weather conditions.

During this time, the museum will implement adjusted visitor routing to ensure continued access to waterfront experiences. Guests participating in boat rides aboard the Wm. B. Tennison will be safely redirected to an alternate route.

This important preservation effort will help maintain the structural integrity and historical appearance of the lighthouse for future generations.

The Drum Point Lighthouse Rehabilitation Project was supported in part by a grant from the Maritime Heritage Grant Program, administered by Preservation Maryland in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Visitors are encouraged to check the Calvert Marine Museum’s website and social media channels for updates on project progress and reopening details.
