WHITE PLAINS, Md. — On Saturday, March 29, 2025, firefighters from multiple departments responded to an early morning house fire that heavily damaged a single-family home in Charles County.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 a.m. in the area of Billingsley Road and Opals Place. Crews arrived to find heavy flames showing from the front and side of a two-story Cape Cod-style home, with fire confirmed in the basement.

An elderly man at the residence was evaluated by EMS for smoke exposure after attempting to investigate the fire.

Conditions in the basement quickly deteriorated, prompting command to issue an evacuation order due to unstable flooring. Firefighters operated across all divisions of the structure using multiple hand lines to bring the fire under control.

SMECO was requested to the scene to address potential electrical hazards. Tankers were later released after a reliable water supply was established.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
