LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A fire broke out in the Leonard’s Grant neighborhood, on the 23600 block of North Montague Drive, in the early hours of June 18, 2024. Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene around 4:00 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the single-family home ablaze from the rear. Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Engine 11 crew quickly began operations, laying a supply line from the hydrant and deploying a 1 3/4 handline to extinguish the fire at the rear and checked for any extension.

A primary search of the home was conducted, which came up negative, and the interior of the structure was checked for fire extension. Firefighters determined that the fire was contained to the deck and the exterior of the home, with no extension inside.
The sleeping occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors inside the home. No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters operated on scene for about an hour before returning to service.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal continues to investigate the cause. The estimated total structure damage is approximately $50,000.
