Elderly Man Airlifted To Trauma Center Following Dog Attack In La Plata

LA PLATA, Md. – A 91-year-old man was seriously injured after a dog attack on Norfolk Drive near Cornwall Drive on February 13, 2024, at approximately 5:54 p.m. Police, animal control, and rescue personnel all responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, EMS personnel found the victim suffering from dog bite injuries, including a 1” laceration to the stomach and injuries to the upper arm and hand. A MEDEVAC was requested due to the severity of the injuries. The dog, reported to be a German Shepherd, fled the scene and was later found at a neighbor’s house.

Firefighters established a landing zone at La Plata High School, where Maryland State Police, Trooper 2, airlifted the patient to MedStar Trauma Center for treatment.

This incident is currently under investigation by Charles County’s Animal Control Division, which declined to share further details at this time.
