Elizabeth McIlwain Harden, 87, of California, Maryland passed away on May 20, 2025.
Born December 2, 1937 in Belton, South Carolina, she was the loving daughter of the late Dr. William Lewis McIlwain and Chayworth Griggs.
She was married to John Patterson Harden Jr. May 7, 1965. They were married for 51 years before his passing in 2016.
Elizabeth (Betty) graduated from Converse College in 1959 which followed with a 40-year career in teaching. She taught English at Great Mills High School for 21 years before retiring in 2000.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Elizabeth (Betty) is survived by Lewis M. Harden, his wife Joelle Harden, and their four children.
Preceded in death by John Patterson Harden Jr.(husband), John Patterson Harden III (son) and her sisters Dorothy and Louise.
