
NANJEMOY, Md. — Emergency crews responded Wednesday afternoon, June 11, 2025, to a distress call on the Potomac River after a rental boat began taking on water near Green Buoy 13 in the upper Potomac.
The call, originally transferred from King George County, Virginia, came in around 12:45 p.m. and reported that a boat had stalled in the area of Little Ferry Inn and was now filling with water. The vessel was located off Rick Hamilton Place near Nanjemoy.
Officials said a good Samaritan assisted in offloading eight passengers to safety on the Virginia shoreline. The renter of the boat, who remained aboard the anchored vessel, which was no longer in distress after pumping the water out.
Multiple response units from Maryland and Virginia were dispatched to the scene, including boats and a helicopter. The U.S. Coast Guard was also notified.
