PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Arts Council of Calvert County recently announced two major developments that will provide even more opportunities for local artists and the community to engage with the arts. The CalvART Gallery is expanding to create additional space for local artists to showcase their work, and a new arts center—the Kocen Arts Center—will open in the spring of 2025. These initiatives are part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to fostering creativity and supporting the local arts scene.

Expansion of CalvART Gallery
The beloved CalvART Gallery, located at 110 Solomons Island Rd N, Prince Frederick, MD, is undergoing an exciting expansion to “bring more art, more space, and more inspiration to visitors,” the Arts Council stated.

The gallery’s expansion will provide additional room for current member artists to display their pieces and open up opportunities for more local artists to join the gallery. Despite the construction, the gallery will remain open during its regular business hours—Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kocen Arts Center: A New Creative Hub
Just around the corner from the CalvART Gallery at 22 Duke Street, the Kocen Arts Center will open in the spring of 2025. The new facility will serve as a multi-purpose space for the arts, offering a range of programs and creative opportunities. Artists will be able to hold classes for the public, while performing arts groups can host rehearsals. Additionally, individuals can utilize the space for open studio times, art demonstrations, and much more.

The Arts Council shared, “Ultimately, our goal for this new center is for it to be beneficial for local artists of every kind to be able to utilize a space for expressive freedom.”

How You Can Help
The Arts Council of Calvert County is excited to invite the community to support these transformative projects through their Giving Tuesday campaign on December 3, 2024. This year’s campaign goal is to raise $3,500, which will directly fund programming for the Kocen Arts Center. Your donation will help provide a space where local artists can develop their craft, engage with the public, and contribute to the vibrant arts scene in Calvert County.

The Arts Council encourages the public to donate by stating, “If this is of interest to you, consider donating to our Giving Tuesday Campaign, where the monies received will help fund low-cost arts programs for the new Kocen Arts Center.”
