Maryland State Fire Marshal’s along with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an incident in Leonardtown where an explosive device was intentionally placed in a mailbox.
Leonardtown firefighters responded to 42740 Medley’s Neck Road on Jan. 3 around 5 p.m., after the owner reported an explosion in a mailbox. Investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) placed an improvised explosive device in a mailbox. The device detonated and caused damage to the mailbox.
