LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – A Lexington Park man has been arrested and charged following a violent confrontation and property damage incident at the Three Oaks Center. Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the facility late Sunday morning after receiving reports of destruction of property in progress.
According to court documents, deputies located Jovan Maurice Justice, 41, walking near South Coral Drive and Tulagi Place. Justice, who was described as “extremely agitated,” repeatedly accused a fellow resident, identified as an adult male, of stealing his credit card information. However, he was unable to provide evidence to support his claims.
Witness accounts and surveillance footage reviewed by law enforcement reveal that Justice entered an office area within the facility—a location residents are not permitted to access—and began causing damage. The complainant reported hearing knocking on the door before witnessing Justice kick a window with such force that it shattered, scattering glass across the floor. The damaged window was valued at $1,200.
Following the destruction, the situation escalated. Justice allegedly confronted the adult male, grabbed him by the back of the neck, threw him to the ground, and struck him repeatedly. Deputies noted visible injuries on the victim, including red marks on his elbows, scratches, and redness on his lower back. The altercation was captured on body-worn camera footage and corroborated by witnesses.
When questioned, Justice admitted to breaking the window, stating he had “blacked out” due to anger. Regarding the assault, he reportedly told deputies, “I reacted on impulse, bro.”
Justice was arrested at the scene and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. He is charged with second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property over $1,000. Under Maryland law, second-degree assault carries a potential penalty of up to ten years in prison and a fine of $2,500. Malicious destruction of property valued over $1,000 is punishable by up to three years of incarceration and an additional fine of $2,500.
Justice remains in custody as the investigation continues. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing in the coming days.
