Costumed performers delighted Calvert Arts Festival attendees Saturday, May 12.

Sunderland, MD โ€“ย There were plenty of things to see and sample as the old joined the new Saturday, May 12 at All Saintsโ€™ Episcopal Church in Sunderland. The church, which is over 325 years-old, is located at Calvert Countyโ€™s โ€œ2-4 Split. The 11th annual Calvert Arts Festival was a showcase for nearly 40 artisans and demonstrators. The talented participants displayed jewelry, glassworks, woodwork, furnitureโ€”even soap.

Musical entertainment was provided by Calvert Brass Consortium, Calvert Dance Band, the duo of Susan and Jim, blues renderings of Slim Money, Celtic tunes from Some Assembly, the All Saintsโ€™ โ€œhouse bandโ€โ€”503 Band and Pocket Change Band. Strolling entertainers and actors garbed in colonial period costumes also provided attendees with enjoyment.

The traditional libationsโ€”wine and beerโ€”were served by experts from eight local wineries and four breweries. In order to taste the wines and brews, attendees purchased glasses and wristbands. Designated drivers were given a wristband and one free soda.

Proceeds from the festival will be distributed locally to Calvert Collaborative for Children and Youth, The Childrenโ€™s Advocacy Center, the Community Ministry of Calvert County, Patuxent Habitat for Humanity and Project ECHO.

โ€œLoved the people in reenactment costumes,โ€ said one festival attendee.
The Calvert Arts Festival was sponsored by All Saintsโ€™ Parish and the Studio at Huntingtown.
